the music is about to change

Now is the time when the song comes to an end. When you are on the dance floor, you anticipate it. Sometimes you want the music to stop...because you can't stand the music or you're simply just tired of dancing. Sometimes you don't want the music to stop...you're enjoying the tempo and pace and you happen to look really good out there. I'm not sure how I feel about the music changing. But I know that it is about to change. The DJ is about to announce the next song. You wait in expectation. Is it your special request song? Is it the one the groom planned before the wedding reception? Will it be a familiar fun song where everyone can join in? (like the chicken dance) Will it be a slow dance for those who are coupled to relax in the warmth and comfort of their loved one? Will it be a funky, fresh new beat? The kind that is so new, you're really not sure what moves go with it - so you just make it up as you go.

No matter what the music, one thing is for sure. God loves to see His people dance to His music. He is in the control room and is keenly aware of the dance floor. He knows exactly what the line up is for His music. He wants all His people to enjoy, whether they are dancing or sitting on the side...watching and encouraging, waiting for just the right song.

I take great comfort in the fact that my Heavenly Father knows me. He has seen me dance in the past (sometimes I've not been a good reflection of Him). And He desires to see me dance in the future. He writes the songs (not Barry Manilow) and he knows (not Gloria Estafan) that the rhythm is gonna get you. I believe that He desires to be not only our music but our inspiration and reason that we dance.

I pray that I continue to move to His beat and not my own rhythm. I want to enjoy the movement, no matter what the song. May I find rest in His Spirit and trust Him as the music changes.
